We are pleased to present current opera and operetta productions as well as concert highlights from breath-taking stages all over Austria.

The Magic Flute – St. Margarethen Open Air Opera

Max Simonischek makes his opera debut as Papageno in this performance of Mozart’s “Magic Flute”. Husband and wife team Carolin Pienkos and Cornelius Obonya will also be directing their first performance on this impressive open-air stage in the former Roman quarry. The unique backdrop of the St. Margarethen quarry offers a spectacular yet magical backdrop for Mozart’s parable on love and reason.

The Land of Smiles - Mörbisch Festival

Experience the touching love story between Lisa, a girl from Vienna, and the Chinese prince Sou-Chong who are governed by different cultures and social conventions. "The Land of Smiles" is perhaps the most impassioned of all the operettas and never fails to touch the hearts of every member of the audience. The romantic operetta is performed on the world's largest operetta stage against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Neusiedl.

The Tales of Hoffmann - Oper Klosterneuburg

Hoffmann, poet and epitome of the hapless genius, awaits Stella, the prima donna and his latest sweetheart. Seduced by his muse into a fantasy world, he experiences a true bacchanalia between reality and dream, carried by sensually beguiling sounds: Olympia, the charming, fragile doll, the tender Antonia, who dies from her art and Giulietta, the beautiful, refined courtesan and thief of men’s souls.

L'Elisir d'Amore - St Margarethen Open Air

Gaëtano Donizetti’s comic opera, “The Elixir of Love” is a tumultuous new production. The shy peasant, Nemorino falls in love with the flamboyant landowner Adina. But Adina only has eyes for the handsome Sergeant Belcore. That is until the travelling jack-of-all- trades, Dulcamara, arrives in town and the gullible Nemorino buys a love potion from him - which in reality is nothing more than a bottle of red wine. When Nemorino is prepared to put his life at risk just to get hold of more of the mysterious miracle potion, the tide turns: Adina’s heart makes the arduous journey to peasant Nemorino.

St. Margarethen Open Air: Tosca

“Floria Tosca” is one of the signature roles of the versatile soprano Martina Serafin, whose beautiful voice has lately been heard in all the major opera houses around the world. Vocal quality of the highest level can be expected from the international singers hired by the new director of the opera, Maren Hofmeister. The musical director is Michael Güttler, the principal conductor of the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. For the first time the orchestra of the State Opera of the Prague National Theatre will perform in St. Margarethen.

Aida - St. Margarethen Open Air

Love knows no bounds. It doesn’t care about social status, regulations or laws. Love follows its own path. Also, if this leads into ruin as with the graceful Aida and Radames. Hollywood director Robert Dornhelm succeeded with his opulent staging of Verdi’s masterpiece in showing opera stars like Kristin Lewis (Aida), Martin Muehle (Radames), Annunziata Vestri (Amneris) under the musical direction of Alfred Eschwé.

 

Carl Maria von Weber's The Marksman

Carl Maria von Weber’s “The Marksman” is a founding piece of German Romantic Opera. This gruesome tale tells the story of Max, a young hunter’s dream of marrying Agathe, a rich heiress. For this, he must shoot on target but makes a pact with the devil to make his dream come true. The devil has other plans for the young couple. Can Max avoid the fate dawning on both his lady and himself?

Summer Gala Concert – Grafenegg 2013

Each year, the majestic “Wolkenturm” in Grafenegg serves as a stage for many great concerts, to the gain of the Austrian music scene and far beyond. The evenings on the “Wolkenturm” are traditionally opened with the Midsummer Night’s Gala, which brings some of the greatest stars on the international music scene to Grafenegg: Conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada the Tonkünstler-Orchestra presented musical pieces from Richard Wagner, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Leonard Bernstein and other famous composers. The concert was vocally accompanied by Karita Mattila, Luca Pisaroni and Martin Grubinger.

Summer Gala Concert – Grafenegg 2012

2012’s edition of the Summer Gala Concert does not fail to impress. This major musical event at the beginning of the Grafenegg festival has become a by word for festive joie de vivre in recent years. Guesting at the “Wolkenturm” are Joyce DiDonato, (mezzo-soprano), Michael Schade (tenor) and Vadim Repin (violin).

 

Summer Gala Concert – Grafenegg 2011

This major musical event at the beginning of the Grafenegg festival has become a byword for festive joie de vivre in recent years. Guesting at the Wolkenturm are Genia Kuehmeier, Sol Gabetta and Sabine Meyer, three soloists who are among the leading artists in their respective fields on the world’s biggest stages. The magnificent selection of masterpieces is directed by Michael Boder, who, as musical director at the Gran Teatredel Liceu in Barcelona and as an opera director has worked at the very summit of the international music scene over the past few years.

Summer Gala Concert - Grafenegg 2010

Once again in 2010 the Wolkenturm in Grafenegg was the setting for the Summer Gala Concert. Several superstars of the classical music world performed a range of beautiful and atmospheric melodies. Those taking part included the Tonkünstler Orchestra under the baton of chief conductor, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and star international soloists. The Swedish mezzo soprano, Anne Sofie von Otter, the award-winning young trumpeter, Alison Balsom, and Rudolf Buchbinder ensured that the Summer Gala Concert offered a varied start to the Grafenegg season. On the program were works by Johann Strauss, Joseph Haydn, George Gershwin, Kurt Weill, Edvard Grieg and Georges Bizet. To conclude, the artists presented the audience a very special highlight, joining together on stage to perform an arrangement of George Gershwin’s “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” – a musical tour de force for mezzo soprano, piano and trumpet. 

Springtime in Vienna 2018

For more than 40 years the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra’s traditional Springtime concert will be recorded live from the Goldener Saal of the Vienna Musikverein and will take you on a Musical journey through selected masterpieces from various world-famous composers! The Viennese symphonic orchestra celebrated 2018th spring season with the renowned conductor Adam Fischer as well as Ondrej Janoska (violin), Roman Janoska (violin), Julius Darvas (double bass), Frantisek Janoska (piano) with masterpieces of Brahms, Dvořák and Strauss.

Springtime in Vienna 2017

The Vienna Symphonic Orchestra's traditional Springtime concert, conducted by Philippe Jordan and recorded live from the Great Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus will take you on a musical journey through selected masterpieces of Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. The musical highlights of this exceptional concert will be presented by pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

Conducted by Manfred Honeck the traditional Springtime concert of the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra will take you on a wonderful journey through Austria with selected masterpieces of Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss. The musical highlights of this exceptional concert will be featured by the passionate musical artist and pianist Helene Grimaud.

Springtime in Vienna 2015

The traditional Easter concert from the Symphony Orchestra is entirely dedicated to the Austrian composer Franz Schubert. Following the musical direction of Philippe Jordan, the Viennese Symphony Orchestra brings orchestral works, like the Symphony No 3 in D major and orchestral arrangements of Schubert songs. The orchestral accompaniment promises a totally new listening experience. The German baritone Matthias Goerne supports the Symphony Orchestra. His voice will give the Schubert songs additional phonetic dramatic.
