A newly updated and expanded edition of the internationally acclaimed documentary “Radioactive Wolves” will soon be available. Marking 40 years since the Chernobyl disaster, this new version provides an up‑to‑date look at one of Europe’s most remarkable ecological regions.
Originally produced as an international co‑production by ORF, epo‑film, WNET and NDR, “Radioactive Wolves” was the first documentary to thoroughly explore the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. With rare access to restricted areas and the first aerial footage in two decades, the documentary revealed how wolves and other wildlife reclaimed a landscape abandoned by humans after the 1986 reactor explosion. The documentary revealed how a thriving ecosystem had emerged in the complete absence of humans.
The updated edition, titled “Radioactive Wolves – Chernobyl’s Forbidden Wilderness”, builds on this foundation and incorporates newly gathered scientific information, current expert interviews and fresh footage from the region to show how military activity has disrupted both the ecosystem and long-term scientific work. It provides a timely perspective on how the Russian invasion of Ukraine has reshaped the landscape, revealing the tension between nature’s resilience and the pressures of ongoing conflict.
“Radioactive Wolves – Chernobyl’s Forbidden Wilderness” will be ready for delivery at the beginning of April 2026. Screeners and further details are available upon request.
