CELEBRATING EDSON VANDEIRA IN FILM
PRESS RELEASE

‘Green Antarctica’ earns prestigious award nominations, while ‘Andes Extreme’ gains recognition from Ibero-American academies, honoring Edson Vandeira’s impactful legacy.

VIENNA – The acclaimed films Green Antarctica and Andes Extreme captivate audiences and critics alike with their breathtaking visuals and compelling narratives. Selected for the prestigious LA Film & Documentary Award, Green Antarctica stands out at the online festival renowned for honoring independent filmmakers and screenwriters. The documentary’s nomination for the Cinematography & Photography Awards in London further underscores its exceptional quality and impact.

Meanwhile, Andes Extreme has attracted significant attention as a finalist in the category Best Nature Documentary Program or Series at the PRODU Awards 2024, the only industry awards recognizing excellence in Latin and Spanish-language productions, evaluated by over 700 professionals from the television and content sectors. Additionally, the film was nominated for Best Documentary by the Brazilian Film Academy.

These accolades honor the significant contributions of Edson Vandeira, whose visionary spirit and dedication to the arts have left a lasting impact on the film industry. Beyond his involvement in creating Green Antarctica and Andes Extreme, he was a distinguished mountaineer and photographer, recognized as a trusted contributor to National Geographic. In 2021, he was a finalist in the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year award for his photograph of the devastation caused by wildfires in Brazil’s Pantanal region, which drew significant international attention to the environmental impacts there. His recent passing marks the end of a remarkable journey, but his legacy endures, inspiring ongoing efforts to share his work with audiences worldwide.

AN ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY

Green Antarctica follows Edson Vandeira and a team of scientists on a 60-day expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula. The film explores climate change by uncovering ancient clues, such as dinosaur bones and evidence of past forests, while documenting extreme weather events. It not only documents the quest for clues about climate change but also explores the human and emotional aspects of this expedition.

Meanwhile in Andes Extreme, the Brazilian mountaineers Gabriel Tarso, Edson Vandeira, and Branca Franco embark on an expedition through the world’s largest mountain range, climbing six peaks over six thousand meters. For sixty days, they explore remote areas rich in ancient culture, with Inca ruins and local traditions. The series combines history and adventure, offering a unique glimpse into the interplay of cultural heritage and the spirit of exploration.
